Enjoy the Arboretum in full bloom as you learn with Educators about the
exciting lives of seeds.

2nd – 3rd grades

  • Walk through of the Main Greenhouse    
  • How Seeds Travel
    Students learn about seed diversity and how seeds travel.  They will view magnifying boxes of different seeds for close observation.
  • What is a Cotyledon?  Monocots vs. Dicots Activity
    Students participate in an interactive journal activity whereby they learn the differences between monocot and dicot plants.
  • Microscope Madness
  • Students use lab-grade microscopes to view the cross-section of a monocot and dicot plant.  They will also practice their observational/classification skills by recording information gathered into their journals.                                    
  • Plant Your Own Veggie Greenhouse Activity Four types of vegetables are planted into peat pellets and placed in sealed/transportable bins (greenhouse) to be taken back to school or home.
  • Introduction to Plant a Row For the Hungry (PAR)
    Group initiative to grow produce for local soup kitchens.
