Weeping European Beech

Fagus sylvatica ‘Pendula’ The weeping mound like form of this tree has been altered in recent years by the vigorous upright growth of layered branches. These young “trees” will ultimately develop the weeping form of the parent plant. It is tempting to walk under the branches of our Weeping Beech. Please do not do this as it injures the roots of the tree and will shorten its life. Like most genetic variations, the seedlings of the European Weeping Beech vary much in appearance and the better forms are usually reproduced vegetatively. The source of Planting Fields’ tree is unknown.
