The Carsharlton Gates
The Carshalton Gates were fabricated in England in 1712
by Thomas Robinson and were installed at the Chicken Valley Road entrance
in 1926. Mr. Coe and Fred Dawson, lead designer for the Olmsted Brothers,
decided the best placement of the gates for which Mr. Coe had to purchase
an additional five acres. The lead statues of Acteon and Artemis are
poised on top of 17’ stone piers decorated with beautiful stone
carvings of game and hunting tophies.
Currently, the statues have been removed as masonry
specialists and architectural consultants are in the process of stabilizing
the gates to prevent further deterioration. We look forward to the
return of Acteon and Artemis! For
